RARE 1959 LECTURE FROM THE HONORABLE ELIJAH MUHAMMAD

RARE 1959 LECTURE FROM THE HONORABLE ELIJAH MUHAMMADFor most, outside of Nation Of Islam rank & file, the majority of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad's teaching have been received via his books and/or via his students (Malcolm X & Louis Farrakhan). But thanks to the wonderful world of YouTube, we now have a taste of Elijah at his best. This 1959 lecture-given in Newark, New Jersey-features a relatively young Messenger providing rather fiery rhetoric on all sorts of topics. Take into consideration that this is right around the time that the NOI moved to center-stage of the American consciousness, as a CBS documentary (The Hate That Hate Produced) would launch The Honorable Elijah Muhammad & his young Minister Malcolm X into mainstream consciousness. In crazy times as these, we need so much more like this! Listen, Learn, Grow, Elevate...

HOWARD HEWETT-SHOW MEStarting with his days as Lead Singer for Shalamar, and on to what appears to have been a stable & successful career as a solo artist, Howard Hewett personifies everything that was the late eighties/early nineties soul music scene. During that era the music was much more sensual than before; but it still cared about romance. Singers like this told her how beautiful she looked, took her out-or kept her in for candle light dinner, maybe a shower or massage, THEN it was time to make love. Ahhhh, thise were the days. BLINDLY CELEBRATING SAVAGERY: THE FESTIVAL OF LUPERCALIA & THE PAGAN ORIGINS OF VALENTINE'S DAY2/14/2014 It is a well-known, but conveniently ignored, fact that Each & Every One of the Holidays came from some Pagan-if not-animalistic ritual. In modern times these events were given a new face & used as reasons to make the mindless consumer spend more & more of their hard-earned money. For Valentine's Day in particular, its beginnings are rooted in The Festival of Lupercalia. The Festival of Lupercalia, which was celebrated on February 15th, is said to have been highlighted by men using goat & dog skins to whip random young women. The belief was that the ritual would enhance the young women's fertility. During the Roman Empire, the participants would run around naked & have sex in public. After the rise of the Christian Church, The Festival of Lupercalia was so popular that even religion could not steer the people away from their pagan ways. Thus the Church co-opted the festival & began claiming that it was in honor of St. Valentine-who legend says was executed by Emperor Claudius II for performing marriages outside of the rule of the Clergy. Today's version of Valentine's Day is linked to the legend of a love letter sent to the daughter of St. Valentine's jailer, and/or the engagement between England’s Richard II and Anne of Bohemia.
KNOW WHAT YOU CELEBRATE. MARY J. BLIGE feat LAURYN HILL-BE WITH YOU *REMIX*I first came across this song on an old DJ Evil Dee Mixtape back in the day, and as if I didn't love the original, I went BANANAS over the remix! It's pretty safe to say that in 94-95, these two women ruled the Soul/R&B music world for sure. And still to this day, regardless of whether they have current music out, the mention of these two names can bring an excitement like few others. Can we get a second coming of this collaboration please??? L-Boogie & Mary J in 2014! Fingers crossed... In a time where the vast majority of our entertainers lack any form of culture; but instead exist simply to push consumerism & other forms of mindless fuckery, a man like Robert Nesta Marley is what is needed today. Unfortunately, like so many other Cultural Icons (i.e. Malcolm, Martin, Che, etc), even his likeness & legacy sometimes gets pimped out in the name of capitalism also. Bob Marley was a FREEDOM FIGHTER. He stood for Truth & Righteousness! Yeah, some of his songs were just about good vibes, fun & positive energy. But the bulk of his material spoke to the struggle for Human Rights & Freedom. Attached below is an interview with Gil Noble, in which Marley explains his views on Religion, Culture, African vs Jamaican Heritage, Humbleness, and of course music. HAPPY BORNDAY ROBERT NESTA MARLEY!!! 1946-1981 |
