Michael Joseph Jackson, infamously known as the KING OF POP, was born on August 29th, 1958 in Gary, Indiana. He returned home on June 25th, 2009. He would've been 55 today, the same age as the ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS PRINCE. It is truly a sad day for his fans and family. I suggest the greater public get abreast on some of his lesser known, but very thorough works included in this blog post. The LP above has a few hard funk numbers that are rarely if ever played. My favorite song on the MUSIC and ME album is EUPHORIA. It came out in 1973. The BEN soundtrack is another tight joint that features Michael's version of PEOPLE MAKE THE WORLD GO 'ROUND. Definitely a true mellow lounge out cut (LP not pictured). MAYBE TOMORROW debuted with his brothers in 1971. My favorites off this LP are the title cut and IT'S GREAT TO BE HERE. LOOKING THROUGH THE WINDOWS came out in 1972 and features the title cut plus the J5 version of Ashford & Simpson's AIN'T NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING. SKYWRITER is another J5 LP from 1973 that features UPPER MOST, YOU MADE ME WHAT I AM & THE BOOGIE MAN. MOVING VIOLATION is a very slept on J5 album that is most famous for the TROOP remake of ALL I DO IS THINK OF YOU. It hit the racks in 1975. The JOYFUL JUKEBOX MUSIC album debuted in 1976 and has a couple notable cuts. The title cut, WE'RE HERE TO ENTERTAIN YOU, PRIDE & JOY and LOVE IS THE THING YOU NEED. Lastly, the GOIN' PLACES LP came out in 1977. Right before Michael really started embarking on song writing and a solo career. It has a few nice cuts as well: JUMP FOR JOY, DO WHAT YOU WANNA & MUSIC'S TAKIN' OVER. Check these songs out while you mourn and remember the KING OF POP!

The Artist formerly known as PRINCE turned 55 today! Infamous for his legendary music made with THE REVOLUTION, Prince continued to showcase his talents in films and as a producer for several artists. A musical writer, composer, producer, actor, director and all around innovator of fashion, temperament and style, Prince has given the music industry an artist type that will never be duplicated. He is a true ICON in every since of the word. He's been able to stay in touch with the times and sounds of modern music without having to switch up his sounds. Simply put, he helped lay the foundation for the GOOD music being made today. The video When Dove's Cry, which is probably considered his crossover/world famous video that launched him into worldwide stardom, is one of his best efforts from a music video standpoint. However, Prince is so on top of his music business/anti-piracy/copyright situations, that he has forced people to remove the video from YouTube. My apologies on his behalf. Instead, enjoy the slide below containing pictures of his looks and style changes over the years. Beats 'n' Breaks is a new column presented by W.E.B. that highlights good beats made the old fashion way, from SAMPLES! This week's beat is from Dee Jay A-Seven: Co-Founder & resident Dee Jay for IIIISOUND IIIITHERAPY & SOUL ECSTASY. The track is called Wit No $ and is a second take on the Jerry Butler original track titled With No Money Down (please note: Jerry's version is not on YouTube). He uses a classic Ensoniq EPS 16 Plus & EPS, with a Boss MC-09 & 1138 to craft his beats. Straight and strictly all vinyl samples. Enjoy... |
