The TN State Legislature is currently reviewing three separate bills that have been proposed to combat mass shootings. One bill would allow school principals to designate specific staff to be armed daily at the school (isn't that what School Resource Officers are for?) Yet another bill would allow full-time employees of any state colleges or university to carry their weapons on campus. The third bill never made it out of the committee in which it was proposed.
"We're never going to stop mass shootings or killings, heart of man is wicked - the best way to stop a bad man with a gun is good people with guns,”
-Rep. Jeremy Faison of Cocke County.
But Who gets to say that any of these people are good and who knows what truly lies in the hearts of men (or women)??? And ummmmm, last time I checked, there haven't been any mass shootings ANYWHERE in Tennessee.
And what would talk of guns be without The Bible? This past Monday The Tennessee Senate voted to make The Bible "The Official Book Of The State Of Tennessee." In spite of State and Federal Constitutional Amendments that provision for a division between Church and State, the bill passed by a margin of 19-8. Governor Bill Haslam has expressed his objections to the legislative action; but as of the time of this writing has yet to declare whether or not he intends to sign the bill or veto it.
And lastly the Pro-Prison Industrial Complex Lobby succeeded in having their pawns defeat a bill that would have lowered the sentenced for juveniles who had been sentenced to Adult Life Sentence prison terms. Currently Tennessee Law stipulates that one sentenced to life would have to serve out 51 years, before being eligible for parole. The now defeated Democratic-Sponsored bill would have allowed juveniles, sentenced as adults to be eligible for parole after 30 years. How dare some politician try to mess with CCA's billion dollar profits...
